The Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR) is published bimonthly (February, April, June, August, October, and December) and pertains broadly to studies of the processes and disorders of hearing, language, and speech and to the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders. Articles may take any of the following forms: reports of original research, including single-study experiments; theoretical, tutorial, or review pieces; research notes; and letters to the editor.
Prior to 1991, ASHA published the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research and the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders. These titles were merged in 1991 under the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research title. Later, the word Language was added to more accurately reflect the areas of research in the discipline.

Robert Schlauch, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Schlauch received his doctoral degree from the University of Washington (Seattle) and was a post-doctoral fellow in Experimental Psychology at the University of California (Berkeley) for 1-1/2 years prior to joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1989.
His research interests include psychoacoustics, diagnostic audiology, and speech understanding. Dr. Schlauch has published research and commentary in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Speech Language and Hearing Research, the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Acustica, Ear and Hearing, the American Journal of Audiology, Otololaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Ecological Psychology and Nature. He has served as a member on ASHA’s Publications Board, an associate editor for the American Journal of Audiology, and he is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

Karla McGregor, PhD, is associate professor of speech pathology and co-director of the Iowa Center for Developmental and Learning Sciences at The University of Iowa. She holds a doctoral degree from Purdue University and a certificate of clinical competency completed in the Early Intervention Program at The Bill Wilkerson Center, Vanderbilt University. Her research concerns individual differences in children’s word learning and usage. McGregor is the recipient of R29 and R01 awards from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, an institute of the National Institutes of Health.
Honors include two Editor's Awards for the Article of Highest Merit, one for McGregor, K.K., Newman, R.M, Reilly, R., & Capone, N.C. Katherine Verdolini, PhD, is professor of communication science and disorders in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her doctoral training in Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Science in 1991 at Washington University. Former appointments include a faculty appointment in speech pathology and audiology and at the School of Music at the University of Iowa; director of speech pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard affiliates; and faculty of otolaryngology, Harvard Medical School.
Her general focus is clinical voice disorders. Her research has addressed numerous issues relative to voice disorders, including the effects of hydration and dehydration on vocal performance; laryngeal biomechanics and acoustics; biology of vocal fold inflammation and recovery; occupational and other risk factors for voice disorders; cognitive and neural substrates of motor learning, and their relevance for voice therapy; and efficacy of voice therapy for phonotrauma. She is the former recipient of a K23 award and current recipient of an R01 award from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), an institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is a standing member of NIH Study Section for the review of R01 and other grant applications.
She is a member and Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Other memberships include National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, and the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. She is a licensed speech-language pathologist in the state of Pennsylvania. She is a singer and teacher of singing.

The Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR) annually publishes summary statistics of acceptance/rejection rates and manuscript processing times. These summary statistics provide data on acceptance/rejection rates, frequently used by tenure/promotion committees, as well as average manuscript processing times, often of interest to contributing authors.
Table 1 shows the rates of acceptance and rejection for manuscripts receiving a final decision in 2004 through 2006, regardless of the year the manuscript was submitted originally. The Speech, Language, and Hearing sections of the journal are reported separately. Accepted manuscripts are those for which a final decision to accept has been made. Rejected manuscripts are those judged unsuitable for publication and for which no further revision or resubmission has been requested.

Table 2 presents data for manuscripts that had completed the review process as of year-end 2005. The submission-to-decision interval is calculated from the date the editor's office receives the manuscript to the date a final decision is made on the manuscript. That interval includes time for peer review, revision or resubmission by the author, and final review and decision by the editor.
