Robert Schlauch, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Schlauch received his doctoral degree from the University of Washington (Seattle) and was a post-doctoral fellow in Experimental Psychology at the University of California (Berkeley) for 1-1/2 years prior to joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1989.

His research interests include psychoacoustics, diagnostic audiology, and speech understanding. Dr. Schlauch has published research and commentary in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Speech Language and Hearing Research, the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Acustica, Ear and Hearing, the American Journal of Audiology, Otololaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Ecological Psychology and Nature. He has served as a member on ASHA’s Publications Board, an associate editor for the American Journal of Audiology, and he is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

Karla McGregor, PhD, is associate professor of speech pathology and co-director of the Iowa Center for Developmental and Learning Sciences at The University of Iowa. She holds a doctoral degree from Purdue University and a certificate of clinical competency completed in the Early Intervention Program at The Bill Wilkerson Center, Vanderbilt University. Her research concerns individual differences in children’s word learning and usage. McGregor is the recipient of R29 and R01 awards from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, an institute of the National Institutes of Health.

Honors include two Editor's Awards for the Article of Highest Merit, one for McGregor, K.K., Newman, R.M, Reilly, R., & Capone, N.C. (2002) Semantic representation and naming in children with specific language impairment. Journal of Speech, Language, Hearing Research, 45, 998-1014, and another for Gerken, L., & McGregor, K.K. (1998) An overview of prosody and its role in normal and disordered child language. American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, 7, 38-48.

Anne Smith received her PhD from the University of Iowa in 1979 in Speech Pathology. She then moved to become an NIH Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington. She joined the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Purdue University as an assistant professor in 1981, and is now Distinguished Professor in that department. She is working on a research program, “Physiological Correlates of Stuttering,” funded by NIH, now in its 18th year. In the current phase of the project, she and her colleagues are completing longitudinal, physiological experiments on young children who are beginning to stutter.

Professor Smith has served on numerous study sections for NIH and as a member of the NIDCD's Communicative Disorders Review Committee. She is currently a member of the Advisory Council for NIDCD. She has been a very active member of AHSA. She is an ASHA Fellow, has chaired the Speech Science Subcommittee for the Convention, and has served as an associate editor for Speech for JSLHR and as a member of the Publications Board.
